How Entrepreneurs Can Share A Profitable Origin Story

Not sure how you got from there to here? Tell a connection story.

What were you doing before you started your business? If you were doing something that seems radically different from where you are now, you may wonder, “Will clients accept me in my new role?”

And how do I answer that all-too-common question, “How on earth did you end up doing this?”

What you need is a connection story….a story to connect the dots between your former life and your present business.

The best place to begin your connection story is to show how the skills from your previous world will help in your present business.

Often the gap seems really wide. But if you step back, or seek an outside perspective, you might find more commonalities than you first expected.

For instance, one of my clients was a ballet dancer who’s now a successful home stager. When we wrote her About Page, we pointed out that dancers have to be very aware of their environment. They are very sensitive to making an immediate visual impression on an audience.
