Relocation for any reason can be stressful and expensive. Avoid relocation stress and enjoy your new home with these 7 tips.
Every so often I’ll see a post on social media: “I’m getting ready for retirement and want to move.” Sometimes they want to be closer to the family. Sometimes they want a warm climate or a smaller home. Or they’re not happy where they are and want a friendlier place.
As I’ve written elsewhere on Medium, retirement should be called the R-word. It’s not a helpful concept at any age.
And as the author of a book on relocation, based on research and experience, I don’t believe there’s much difference between moving for retirement or moving for any other reason.
Here are my 7 top tips for relocation for any reason.
1 — Ignore people who say things like, “If you can’t be happy here, you won’t be happy anywhere.”
Many people have transformed their lives by moving. Some places are naturally friendlier; some resent and resist newcomers. Sometimes your own style works better in some locations. Like many people who identify as former New Yorkers, I tend to talk fast and interrupt people. I’m much more likely to be accepted in an East Coast city (or…
